For us, it doesn’t seem like a ghetto at all. Some of us expected much more misery, with graffiti splashing the walls, and far more noise and negligence. What we found was a vibrant community full of life, clean places to rest and play, and many beautiful green areas. The volunteers haven’t yet met too many locals, but we have discovered some interesting questions to explore, concerning the future of the youth of Vollsmose. We also wondered why we didn’t see any elderly people. We pondered on how the youth see their chances in living in Denmark, and how they feel about the western way of living and society. All of us are looking forward to meeting more locals and getting under their skin in order to understand their problems in immigrating and dealing with a multi-cultural identity. We’re looking forward to deepening our insight into the project at Vollsmose and communicating them to you each day. Greetings from 3 of the international volunteers,
Hannah from
Germany, Leona from
USA, and Marie from
France.
Walking around Vollmose.
It wasn’t easy for our international guests to see that this was part of a ghetto.
